石油系洗浄剤と称される、合成界面活性剤を含むシャンプーやボディーソープが多くの人の健康を害しているという噂。
安価に大量合成できる石油由来の界面活性剤がシャンプーやボディーソープ、歯磨き粉などに広く使われている。
合成界面活性剤は洗浄力がとても強く、皮脂や肌の水分を過剰に取り除いて肌を荒らし、脱毛やアトピーの原因となっていることが指摘されている。
合成界面活性剤のもう一つの特徴に強い浸透性が挙げられ、皮膚から体内に浸透して、乳房や子宮などの脂肪が多い部分に蓄積されるという。
そして、体内に蓄積した合成界面活性剤は乳がんや子宮の病気を引き起こすと言われる。
最近の若い女性に婦人病が増えているのは石油系シャンプーを長期間使用しているためだといわれ、子宮筋腫を切開するとほのかにシャンプーの香りがして、体液は泡立っているという話さえある。
生殖器に影響が出るのは女性だけではない。
近年の男性は精子数が減少傾向あるというが、その陰に石油系のボディーソープの影響があるともいわれる。
石油系のシャンプーやボディーソープの使用をやめて、純粋な石鹸で髪や体を洗うようになってからは頭皮のトラブルが改善されて抜け毛が減る。
そして、男性の精子の数も正常に戻るので、純石鹸を使用するようになってからは不妊に悩んでいた夫婦の間に子供を授かった例もあるという。

石油系シャンプーの怖い話はオーガニック化粧品の訪問販売の場面でよく耳にします。
石油系洗浄剤の成分で有害物質の筆頭として挙がるのが、ラウリル硫酸ナトリウム系の界面活性剤です。
ラウリル硫酸ナトリウムは強い洗浄作用により皮脂を取り除くため、皮膚や粘膜に炎症を起こす可能性があります。強い洗浄作用のため、ＭＳＤＳには皮膚刺激性を有するという記載が見られます。
界面活性剤の特性故に炎症を起こす可能性は否定できませんが、特に問題視されている発がん性や遺伝子を傷つける毒性を有するかについては確かな証拠はないようです。
最近のシャンプーではラウリル硫酸ナトリウムの刺激をマイルドにしたラウレス硫酸ナトリウム系の界面活性剤が使用されています。こちらの成分についても腫瘍の発生を引き起こす等の毒性は確認されていないようです。
合成界面活性剤が実際に有害なのか無害なのか分からないところが都市伝説なのですが、いくら安全というデータを示されても怖い気がするのは確かです。

界面活性剤とは石鹸のこと合成だろうが同じこと、ただし、不純物の問題と生体による分解ができやすいか否かが残留とか環境の汚染原因にかかわる。
植物でも界面活性剤を含んで洗剤として使えるものもあるので、植物とか海草由来のものを使えばいいんじゃない。米ぬかも洗剤になるが頭は洗いたくないけど。
